Robert Lee Burnside, who is known in the world of blues music as R. L. Burnside, was born into poverty in 1926 in the rural town of Oxford, Mississippi. He played music for most of his life and was widely unknown until the 1990's when he finally began to gain recognition. He passed away in 2005 at the age of 78.
